About MeThe Medical Director of the Springfield Ambulatory Surgery Center, Dr. James Taterka has pursued a successful career as a health care professional in the Philadelphia area for two decades. At the facility, Dr. James Taterka oversees day-to-day operations, which includes evaluating the medical staff. Beyond his administrative responsibilities, Dr. James Taterka treats and diagnoses gastrointestinal disease for the facility's patients. A member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Dr. James Taterka specializes in the treatment of colon cancer and regularly performs cancer screenings, as well as therapeutic endoscopy procedures. In addition to his work with at the facility, Dr. James Taterka serves as a physician with Hillmont G.I., PC. He has also worked at Chestnut Hill Hospital and Lansdale Hospital of Abington Health. Dr. James Taterka's interest in internal medicine and gastroenterology developed during his time as a medical student. As a student at Columbia, Dr. James Taterka achieved academic success, graduating from the university as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After receiving his degree in 1985, he accepted an internship with Columbia University Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian in New York City and eventually completed his residency in internal medicine at the same facility. While attending Columbia University Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian, Dr. James Taterka developed a strong interest in gastroenterology, which led to a fellowship in the field at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. Dr. James Taterka subsequently accepted a full-time position at the hospital, where he has served as an Attending Physician since 1991. In addition to his professional pursuits, Dr. James Taterka is an active philanthropist who regularly contributes to a variety of charities, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Jewish Congress. In his free time, Dr. James Taterka likes to spend time with his family and his dog, Ruby. Dr. James Taterka is a board-certified physician, as well as a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Physicians.
